Sermon Recap
In our world today, and especially in our western culture, there is resistance to anyone giving us rules that we need to follow. People want to live by their own rules. But through Scripture, God gives us clear guidance for living a life pleasing to Him. In so doing, He seeks to teach us and protect us from the enemy. God exhorts us to walk in the light and not darkness, for He is the light. Anyone who follows Him will not walk in darkness but will be a reflection of His light. Some people say they are followers of Jesus, but their actions are connected to darkness when they sin. We need to understand the nature of sin and the intention behind it. God hates sin, but Satan is the author and architect of sin and the enemy of the light. He was once a beautiful angel in heaven who one day rebelled against God as he sought to be like God. Consequently, God cast him and his cohorts out of heaven. From him comes the nature of sin which is rebellion, an act of resistance or defiance against God. Satan’s intention is to bait us into sin and eventually enslave us. He will twist God’s Word, try to get us to question God’s integrity, and try to make us think God is withholding something good from us. He wants us to believe that sin is inconsequential as the lure of temptation becomes hypnotic. But sin is invasive and eventually leads to enslavement. It is birthed from a place of not trusting or having faith in God as the good Father. It will always lead us into darkness. As believers, we must resist the temptations of the enemy and make an intentional and deliberate decision to walk in the light, to remain in proximity to Jesus, and to heed the guidance of Scripture.
