What our World Needs Now
Ps. Pierre duPlessis and Doug Garasic
Scripture References: John 1:5-7, Hebrews 12:5-6, 1 John2:12-15
Discussion Questions:
1.What challenged or provoked you from Sunday’s message?
2. It was said that sin often happens when we decide to shortcut our way to a desire. Genesis 3 was references when the serpent (satan) said to Eve “Did God really say…” Have you ever experienced this in your own life?
3. Sin was likened to sugar, initially appealing and not feeling bad in the moment but over time it becoming toxic. Do you resonate with this?
4. Spiritual maturity was referenced from 1 John 2:12-15. It was said that babies need someone to give them milk, young men/women need to feed themselves and that fathers/mothers in the faith need to help others. Do you identify with any of these phases? Can you identify any fathers or mothers in the faith in your own life?
5. It was said that it’s not enough to come to Church and serve. Rather, to follow Jesus we need to preach the gospel with our entire life. What does this mean to you?
6. Hebrews 12:5-6 was referenced regarding God’s discipline for those he loves. The question was posed, “If you haven’t felt disciplined by God lately perhaps you have wandered from Him.” Did this provoke you?
7. It was said that in order to lead a disciplined life we need to have a Godly vision for a future that we can’t see yet. Do you have that vision for your life? If so, what does the vision look like and how are you discipling yourself to walk towards it?
Sermon Recap
This service was a conversation between Pastor Pierre and guest speaker, Pastor Doug Garlic about the topic of sin, spiritual maturity and living out out faith. John 1:5-7 was the anchoring scripture to open up the question, how can we follow Jesus, the light of the world while waling in darkness (sin.) The pastors discussed the questions listed above and dove into the definition of sin, the process of spiritual maturity and the nuance of exploring our unmet expectations while following Jesus as the can often lead us into the temptation to take matters into our own hands and sin. The pastors also discussed that in American culture, we often idolize ourselves wanting to make God in our image and transform God in our image instead of lead a crucified life.
